Landscape Plan

Landscaping

The proposed area for the residential development and the local centre is adjacent to Hillcroft and Weatherby to the East of the site and Frenchs Avenue to the North. As you progress further West, development will gradually reduce until you reach a large area of formal open space and publicly accessible parkland.

The aim is to create an attractive and sustainable transition between the proposed new urban area and the surrounding countryside, whilst respecting the existing urban fringe and improving residents’ access to facilities and public open spaces.

The primary considerations for the landscaping strategy are to:
  • Carefully integrate Hillcroft, Weatherby, Bryony Way and Cusworth Way with our proposed new scheme
  • 20 hectares of new publicly accessible parkland that will be appropriately managed as an ecological resource
  • Return large amounts of the existing farmland back to its original chalk grassland
  • Protect and preserve the future of Maiden Bower by installing a vital new grassland buffer zone between the monument and the proposed new houses
  • Retain existing vegetation, especially around the perimeter of the site
  • Improve access to Maiden Bower and enhance its setting
  • Create access to a new local centre and shop
  • Develop connections to cycle ways and all existing public rights of way which cross the site
