The Existing Site

Our development proposals have been considered in the context of important environmental factors and we believe they will complement the surrounding area. The whole of the site is Greenfield land and the majority is currently in agricultural use.

Existing trees and hedgerows are predominantly confined to the perimeter of the site, apart from the circular hedgerow and trees around Maiden Bower. Survey work is taking place at the site to ensure that environmental features are protected and incorporated into the site design.

Our development proposals have been designed to provide a sustainable development while respecting and enhancing the features of the surrounding landscape.

Ecology

Any adverse impact from the proposed development upon the ecology of the site will be limited and our management of the historic chalk grassland will bring ecological benefits to the area. In addition our proposals will add to the recently enhanced wildlife habitats that have been created through the newly established nature reserve in the quarry to the immediate West of the site.

Where appropriate, important hedgerows will be retained and preserved. The areas of open green space will provide extensive foraging areas for the species that inhabit the site.

Further survey work is planned for the summer of 2009 which will inform the green infrastructure strategy for the development and also identify potential protected species on the site.

This will maximise the conservation benefits, the benefits brought from the management of Maiden Bower and the surrounding open green space.
